The Blue Man Group had the honor of performing before Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh on November 21, 2005. Origins of the Blue Man Group
Dedicated to creating innovative work in a variety of media, Blue Man Group is a creative organization that are known best for their theatrical productions. Their performances often incorporate comedy, music, multi-media artistry.
Larry Heinemann, Ian Pai and Caryl Glaab used some of these performance art pieces to help create a show at La Mama, ETC. Due to this production, the show debuted at Astor Place Theatre. From there, the show opened in Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Berlin and Toronto. For the first three years, Goldman, Stanton and Wink performed without understudies.
In the late 1980s, the show evolved out of salon style meetings with three long-time friends Chris Wink, Phil Stanton and Matt Goldman. They made their debut as the Blue Man Group on New York streets and performance art spaces of the East Village. Currently, there are nearly 60 Blue Men working within the company and rotating through shows. On occasion, the Blue Man Group makes appearances on “The Tonight Show.”
Musical and Video Recordings
In response to the September 11, 2001 tragedy, the Blue Man Group created a short film called Exhibit 13. This production can be viewed at exhibit13.com. Today, the Blue Man Group now has 500 people involved in their production.
In 2003, Blue Man Group released their first complete rock ‘n’ roll album called The Complex. The group collaborated with Dan the Automator, Josh Haden, Dave Matthews, and other musicians. While recording this album, the group developed the Complex Rock Tour. This tour visited more than 70 North American cities. Some footage from the tour was included in the music videos for the Blue Man Group’s DVD first rock concert.
Blue Man Group’s long running theatrical productions are performed in New York, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Berlin, Toronto and London. The shows in New York, Boston, Chicago, Toronto and London have similar scripts. The Blue Man Group added new material in March 2004 to New York, Boston and Chicago productions.
